Satu began knitting in 1992 as a hobby. In 1995 faux feather yarns with a minimal amount of color selection were beginning to emerge. Satu sold her first boa-designed scarves in a few boutiques and at craft fairs. In 1999 she became involved in creating an upscale fishing and lodging business with her husband, Todd Scharf. Together they established The Anglers Arms Bed and Breakfast Hide-a-way Upstream Adventures Guiding Services Inc., located in Mission, B.C. Their company specializes in Fly and Spey fishing, an elite fishing experience fishing the very best remote river locations.

In 2002 Satu’s passion for knitting resurfaced because she noticed the market was filled with yarn in new and better colors and textures. Simultaneously as she had been watching her husband tie his custom flies for his clients, she had an urge to start creating and mixing 2 or more strands of yarn to create even newer colors and textures that would become her own unique shades. She showed one of her fishing and lodging gentleman guests one of the scarves she had made and he asked if he could buy it from her. He said it was the most beautiful and decent gift he would be giving his wife from a fishing trip. Satu realized her guests were interested in treating their wives with a special gift when they returned home from being away. She also recognized a new business opportunity. As a woman Satu already knew, women desire beautiful gifts, especially from men. This realization triggered the entrepreneurial spirit she already possessed so she began to produce and design hand knit souvenirs for her guests. By 2003 she had produced over 300 unique colors.

As the demand for her designs has increased Satu is working with her neighbor to expand the production and distribution of Satu’s designs. Satu has created an array of designs in custom color, style and size.
